14 Days Classical Beach & Bush Safari
 

Day 1

On this day head out from Nairobi for Arusha by shuttle bus arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon spent at leisure and shopping for the provisions needed for the mountain. Dinner and overnight in an Arusha Hotel.

Day 2

Early morning drive to Marangu Gate, You are required to registered with the national park ranges. This marks the start of your ascent on a cleared ridge trail through the rain forest to Mandara Hut. Each hut can accommodate up to 60 mountain climbers in its 8 sleeping bunks with solar generated lighting.

Day 3

From Mandara hut continue the ascent with trail winding through forests and moorland. You will witness the impressive views of the Kibo Crater. The pace is relatively slow to allow for acclimatization with the raise in altitude. After the 6 hr arrive at Horombo hut for the night.

Day 4

This day is specially for additional acclimatization at the Horombo huts perched on a small plateau, capable to accommodate at most 120 mountain climbers. A hike towards the Mawenzi hut, passing the Zebra Rocks on the way is strongly recommended. This hike will further assist with the process of acclimatization. Remember to drink enough water and move slowly! All meals for the day are provided at the hut. Retire to bed early and get a last good night's rest.

Day 5

After breakfast trek up to Kibo Camp continuing your ascent from 3700m to 4700m. The slope eases as your enter into a Saddle - an area located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo, an Alpine desert terrain. When about to pass the last watering point, fill your water bottles with all the water you will need. At Kibo hut you get some rest, as you prepare for the final climb up the Kilimanjaro summit.

Day 6

On this day you will climb 4 kms up and 14kms down. The trek takes around 10-15 hours and mostly passes through Alpine Desert. You will leave Kibo Hut in the dead of the night. During the ascent you will encounter steep slopes covered in rocks and heavy scree.

A 4 - 7 hours trek takes you to Gilman's point, on the crater rim at around 5861m (18640 ft). From Gillams Point you ascend further upto Uhuru Peak the highest point in Africa.

You will be engulfed by the breathtaking views, coupled with the sense of satisfaction and victory whilst taking a rest to enjoy the achievement of reaching the top because soon the descent will begin, and will last for about 2 hours stopping at Kibo for a rest and some lunch and then continuing to Horombo. Tired after a hard day of climbing we tuck into a well-deserved dinner and spend overnight at Horombo Hut.

Day 7

After breakfast you continue your descent (6 hours), passing the Mandara hut, down to the Marangu gate. You are required to sign out. On this spot successful climbers receive their summit certificates. On this day you drive back to Moshi for a long over due hot shower, dinner and celebrations. Spend the night in a hotel.

Day 8: Departure

After breakfast, leave for Nairobi by morning or afternoon shuttle bus. Transfer to a Nairobi Hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back home.
