5 days Climbing Mt Kenya via the Naro Moru route – This is a favourite Mt Kenya climbing route for many mountain climbers because it is the fastest route to reach point Lenana. However Naro Moro route does not have captivating natural beauty as compared to the other routes.

When climbing Mount Kenya via the Naro Moru climbing route, mountain climbers are able to gain altitude very fast thus it’s advisable to take a day to acclimatize in order to avoid altitude sickness. An overnight stay at Naro moru River Lodge allows one to acclimatize.

Day 1: Depart Nairobi

On this day you will be picked from your hotel in Nairobi and transferred to Naro Moru Park Gate. From the gate we trek up through the forest with good views of the Northern Naro Moru valley. The trek will leads us to the Meteorological Station at 3,000m above sea level for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Met Station - Mackinders Camp

This morning we trek uphill following a track that will lead us out of the forest belt to a moorland region. There are excellent views of the summit of Mt. Kenya as well as the surrounding.

Here we negotiate a boggy grassland where they conditions may vary from damp to glutinous depending on when it last rained. Continuing on our trail we lead us to a fork overlooking Teleki Valley. We reach Mackinders Camp, at 4,200m above sea level for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Mackinders Camp - Point Lenana

This is it, the final trek to Point Lenana kicks off at 2 am in order to reach point Lenana just before day break. The climb starts on frozen scree and continues on a rocky track with some very minor scrambling. On a moon lit night you don’t need a torch giving you as good a view of the stars as almost anywhere on Earth.

The final climb takes roughly 3 -4 hours. Standing on top of Mt Kenya, Mt. Kilimanjaro is also visible from the horizon. Later on after jubilation we start to descend down to Mackinders Camp for breakfast after which we head back to Met Station for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Met Station

After breakfast, descend through the rainforest which is 9km to Naromoru Park Gate at 2,600m where you will be driven back to Nairobi, or continue on another itinerary.

Day 5: Nairobi

After breakfast at Met station walk down to Park Gate to catch your transport back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon
