Tour Highlights

This tour that will take you through the rich cultural Western Kenya region museums to experience the traditional African Communities lifestyle, culture and the pre-historic man. You will traverse Western Kenya and Lake Victoria region visiting Kisumu Museum, Abasuba Peace Museum, Kitale Museum, and Kapengurial Museum.

Day 1 : Arrival - Kisumu Museum excursion.

On arrival at Kisumu Airport, you will be received by our representative who will brief you on your tour. Depending on the arrival time, you can either be taken to your place of accommodation awaiting your tour the next day in case of late arrival. Depart for Kisumu Museum located within Kisumu City at 8.30 am in the morning for a visit. At the museum you will participate in the following educative programmes; botanical studies, history and fossils study of early man and live exhibitions.

Kisumu Museum has the following interesting spectacles to offer; The Snake Park - The park consists of several live snake species some contained in transparent glass cages. These snakes were caught from the environment around and include the following types; Gabon Viper and African Rock Python.

Kisumu Museum Exhibitions Traditional Luo Homestead Apart from snakes you will find the Nile Crocodiles in ponds ,Aldabra Tortoise, Hinged back Tortoise, Leopard Tortoise, Marsh Terrapins.

The Aquarium It consist of local fish species collected and sampled from Lake Victoria and rivers around. Of these notable species are the Spiny eel, Labyrinth, Ctenopoma and Marcunius.

Culture and heritage spectacle At the museum you will find a traditional Luo Homestead called "Dala or Boma". In addition to these you will see the pleasant rock arts, rich cultural heritage, traditional Luo regalia and artifacts all in the gallery exhibition.

Dinner will be served at place of accommodation: - Jumuiya hotel/Sunset hotel/Guest house or any similar.

Day 2: Depart for Abasuba Community Peace Museum - Rock Art attractions.

At around 7.00am, you will depart for Suba- Mfangano through Luanda Kotieno route, board ferry across Lake Victoria to Mbita. If you prefer a chartered plane or chopper you can hire at an additional cost directly to Mfangano Island. Otherwise you can travel by use of of speed boat.

There are two different types of rock art the region;

  1. Rock engravings or carving.
  2. Rock Painting.

On Mfangano Island there are at least four rock art sites; Cupule site, Gwasi mainland, Nawanga and Kwitone.

Other tourist attraction includes; Lake Victoria excursions, boat rides, birding, sport fishing, historical sites, and sacred forests. Dinner and overnight will be at Mfangano Governor camp/ Mbita beach resort/Takawiri resort/Guest house /homestays or similar.

Day 3: Mbita to Kitale - Visit Kitale Museum

At around 7.00 am you will leave Mbita for Kitale via Kisumu, en route you will see Kisumu Airport, Lake Victoria, Nandi hills as you journey towards Kakamega Webuye route to Kitale.
On arrival, Visit Kitale Museum and spend the whole day learning and experiencing the cultural diversity of Kitale town. Kitale Museum was the first inland museum to be developed in Kenya. It used to be known by the name Stoneham Museum. It harbours quite a lot of ethnographical materials collected from the surrounding ethnic groups in addition to Stoneham's collection. The traditional huts in the museum are a huge attraction to visitors. The museum show cases the culture of traditional local communities like Nandi, Sabaoti, and Luhya. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Kitale hotel/lodge/guest house or similar.

Day 4: Kitale to Kapenguria - Visit to Kapenguria Museum.

Depart for Kapenguria in Pokot early at around 7.30 am and travel to the Kapenguria Museum. The Museum is located in Kapenguria town, which is small isolated town at the site where former six most influential leaders in the struggle for Kenya's independence were detained Kapenguria six detainees

The Museum was one of the addition to the western region museum network. This museum addresses Kenya colonial legacy and integrates the cultural values of Pokot and Sengwer communities. Display at the museum includes books and documents in the memorial library. Other attractions includes Pokot cultural practices and life style.
Dinner and overnight stay at Kapenguria, Eldoret or Kitale hotel or similar.

Day 5: Departure - Kitale/Eldoret to Kisumu.

You will leave the hotel or place of accommodation and travel to Kisumu City for your next destination. End of safari.
